A day in the life of Lead Tech’s 2019 graduates
Reading time: 3 mins 15th April 2019
Everyone needs a helping hand — especially when they’re starting their career after university. Every year, we welcome a host of new faces as part of our graduate scheme. Since 2017, the scheme has helped ambitious graduates jumpstart their careers, joining Lead Tech as valued, permanent members of the team.
We like to do things differently here and we believe in rewarding drive, innovation and passion. That’s why our graduates aren’t shuffled off in the corner, ready to make the next tea round. Let us introduce you to an exciting day in the life of our graduate stars, Shannon Holmes, Callum Eade and Ben Parker.
Real world experience
As many young graduates leave university, they’re faced with tough competition. Our scheme prepares them for their professional lives after university, giving them the chance to propose new ideas, find their niches and learn, with the full support of the business behind them.
A friendly office environment has given graduate PPC executive Ben Parker the confidence to settle in his first role. Since studying business and management at Leeds Beckett University, Ben has become instrumental in helping us support our partners with financial advice leads.
Ben explained, “You get a lot of help and there are lots of opportunities to develop. Lead Tech will support you in many ways, such as purchasing training resources and they even paid me to visit Facebook HQ in Ireland. I think when you come through the grad scheme, it makes it easier to settle into the business and working culture.”
Mentoring bright talent
We support graduates every step of the way, whether that’s offering constructive feedback on projects, giving them time to research new technologies or encouraging them to look for new ways to use their creativity.
After studying computing at Leeds Beckett, graduate web developer Shannon Holmes was keen to find her specialism and found herself attracted to the fast pace of working as part of a development team.
“I really liked the problem-solving aspect of it and looking for different ways to do things. I did a lot of software development and I found that it’s not as modern, so I naturally gravitated to web development because it’s constantly changing. Lead Tech has a very supportive environment, so you can really go in any direction you want,” she explained.
Big things come in small packages. Working in a small business means our graduates benefit from more personal support through dedicated mentorship, monthly performance reviews and working on exciting projects.
From monitoring data to reviewing conversion figures, a degree in international business helped Callum Eade succeed as our graduate operations executive. The varied role was just what he was after, highlighting his passion for analysing data and allowing him to support the wider business.
“At Lead Tech, you really learn how teams can benefit each other. I don't think you’ll find a better way to experience your first role. You’re not just a cog in a wheel. It’s a very people-focused business that’s very open and everyone works well together, which helps the business and yourself grow.”
