Lead Tech Charity Abseil 2019
Reading time: 1 min 28th March 2019
At Lead Tech, we’re always looking for ways to give something back to the communities we work in, so each year we give our team the chance to do their part by voting for our two charity partners.
This year, we’re supporting Leeds-based charity, St Gemma’s Hospice and the Leukaemia & Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (LINC) which works to improve care for patients in the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Organised by St Gemma’s Hospice, March’s adrenaline-packed event was a far cry from a charity bake sale. This month’s charity event was a sponsored abseil down one of the tallest buildings in Leeds, taking in breath-taking views and thrills as we raised funds for charity on 23rd March 2019.
Our very own Gemma David, Paul Walsh, Sam Blackwood and Sam Wormald took part, facing their fears as they made their way to Leeds’ third-highest building. Formerly known as Opal Towers, the CLV Building is also one of the tallest buildings in the north.
While many were enjoying a leisurely day of Saturday shopping, the four rode the lift to the 24th floor, as their families cheered them on, 300 feet below in Leeds’ Arena Quarter. Everyone was fully kitted out in safety gear and securely harnessed before it was time to make the descent.
Gemma David was determined to overcome her fears and support LINC, which provided support to her sister during her battle with leukaemia. “You have to put yourself out of your comfort zone,” Gemma explained, “but the feeling from giving something back far outweighs the fears and nervousness”.
The event was a huge success, with the four volunteers raising over £720, which will be split between St Gemma’s Hospice and LINC.
